Statement from Hunter Rand on Request for Comment from Senior ResQ Magazine
On November 6th I received a request for comment on the proposed Sparks Fire Service Fee from Senior ResQ Magazine, associated with the Senior ResQ Foundation. The Foundation’s Executive Director is the spouse of the incumbent, my opponent.
I believe there are clear conflicts of interest, and I do not believe this outreach was made in good faith.
I have asked to be excluded from future requests for comment. I’m not concerned with “equal time” in publications that lack impartiality. Instead, I’ll continue working with credible, ethical media outlets and will use my own channels to communicate directly with residents of Sparks and Ward 2.
Regarding the proposed Sparks Fire Service Fee, I intend to wait until the November 13th meeting to hear directly from the City of Sparks as well as more Ward 2 residents and learn more about what is actually being proposed before offering any official position.
Until then I will continue speaking on the importance of keeping Fire Station 5 open and increasing fire staffing to appropriate levels, to ensure all of Ward 2’s and Sparks’ residents have the privilege of reasonable response times by our great fire department.
