Financial Transparency Dashboard
As I run to represent Ward 2 it’s important for me to be a good steward of campaign funds and to be as transparent as possible with how I spend those campaign funds. This page is meant to break down contributions and expenditures in an easily understandable format above and beyond what the Nevada Revised Statutes and the Secretary of State requires. If you have any questions about our campaign finances, don’t hesitate to reach out: hunter@sparkstogether.com
Commitments to You!
Part of being a good steward of campaign funds means using them for what they were contributed for: this campaign. With that in mind I want to make the following commitments to the public and to anyone that contributes to this campaign.
-
Too often, campaigns use donor money to purchase items that candidates later keep for personal use - laptops, tablets, phones, or other equipment justified as, “campaign needs.” I don’t believe that’s right. As part of my commitment to financial transparency and not enriching myself through campaign funds, I’m making two clear commitments.
First, if I need something for the campaign that I would reasonably keep and use after the campaign - such as a tablet, phone, or equipment like a Cricut - I will purchase it with my personal funds. I’ve already done this. When I needed an iPad and a Cricut, I bought them personally because I intend to continue using them beyond the campaign.
Second, if the campaign does purchase equipment out of necessity - for example, a laptop, camera, or tablet for volunteer use - there will be a documented plan in place to donate that equipment to a nonprofit or charitable organization after the campaign concludes. I will not buy items back from the campaign, as I believe that creates an unnecessary conflict of interest.
This approach ensures donor funds are used only for campaign purposes and that no personal benefit is derived from campaign contributions.
-
Too often in Washoe County, campaigns and candidates engage in a quiet practice of trading small contributions with one another - $50 here, $100 there, $250 back and forth. Public records show that these contributions are sometimes made using campaign funds, not personal funds. I’m not interested in playing that game.
As part of my commitment to financial integrity and transparency, I will not use campaign funds to contribute to other candidates. People donate to Rand Together because they support this campaign, my values, and my priorities. It wouldn’t be right to take those contributions and pass them along to another candidate who may not align with what a donor intended to support.
Funds given to this campaign will be used for this campaign - period.
-
As this campaign comes to a close, there are only a few possible outcomes. First, I want to be clear: I am not a perennial candidate. This is it. If I lose, my participation in politics in this capacity ends. Under Nevada law (NRS 294A.160), any remaining campaign funds must be legally disposed of in specific ways. One option allowed by law is contributing those funds to other candidates. I will not do that. Instead, I am making the following commitments.
If I lose, after all outstanding campaign obligations are paid, 100% of any remaining campaign funds will be donated to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that serves Ward 2 and the City of Sparks.
If I win, I will retain a reasonable reserve to cover ongoing campaign-related expenses such as website hosting, email services, and compliance costs. Once that four-year operating budget is established, 50% of any funds remaining above that amount will be donated to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that serves Ward 2 and Sparks.
These commitments ensure that campaign contributions are either used directly for this campaign or returned to the community they were intended to serve - not to other politicians or used for personal benefit.

It’s important to me to support local small businesses and the companies that call Sparks home. That’s why, whenever possible, I commit to spending campaign funds here in Sparks. It won’t always be possible, but it will always be my first choice.
For example, I work with a locally owned print shop in Sparks for most of my campaign materials - rack cards, mailers, and yard signs. They aren’t always the lowest bidder, but supporting my neighbors and reinvesting campaign dollars back into our community is the whole point of this campaign.
