About Hunter Rand
Hunter Rand currently serves as the Compliance Officer and Director of Marketing at a local estate planning firm that operates in Nevada and Florida. In this role, he has expanded access to estate and end-of-life planning services for rural Nevada communities and Spanish-speaking residents within Sparks and Ward 2.
Beyond his work in estate planning, Hunter is an award-winning television and film producer and director. He is also a seasoned live sports broadcast director, Steadicam operator, and commercial sUAS pilot, utilizing his skills for live sports, films, and television productions. Additionally, Hunter also serves as a consulting Engineer-in-Charge for a local television satellite truck operator, leveraging ground-to-space links for live television broadcasts.
After leaving teaching to better focus on film and television production, Hunter co-founded a local multimedia services company which has since evolved into his current professional endeavors.
One of Hunter’s most notable achievements is his success in advocating for improved broadband access in Ward 2. From 2021 to 2024, he privately and personally advocated to AT&T to bring fiber-optic internet to older neighborhoods in Sparks. In 2024, AT&T completed a multi-million-dollar infrastructure project, delivering 5Gb/5Gb fiber-optic internet to Ward 2. This project spurred competition, driving Spectrum to lower its prices to as little as $30 per month, down from $80 per month, for residents. The enhanced broadband access empowers small businesses, fosters tech entrepreneurship, and increases connectivity and access to information for residents.
Despite briefly residing in Reno during his time at the University of Nevada, and short stints in other communities for various work-related opportunities, Hunter has always returned to Sparks, where he has lived in Wards 4, 1, and, since 2019, Ward 2.
Hunter’s educational journey began in Washoe County public schools, where he attended Bud Beasley Elementary School and Mendive Middle School, in Sparks, and graduated from the Academy of Arts, Careers & Technology (AACT) with early exposure to film and television production at AACT. He continued his education at the University of Nevada, Reno, graduating from the Reynolds School of Journalism with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and a minor in art studio. His favorite courses—magazine writing, journalism ethics, and First Amendment law—inspired his personal, political, and educational philosophies.
Hunter began his professional career in a professional and administrative role for a local women’s sports team and later became a licensed Career and Technical Education (CTE) teacher at a local high school. During this time, he pursued postgraduate studies at Southern Utah University and completed the Nevada Safety and Health Practitioner Program through the Nevada Division of Industrial Relations/SCATS. Hunter is passionate about workplace safety, risk management and legal compliance - especially on film sets - which has remained a key focus throughout his career.
